In 1983 John Shive founded Sawdust Staircases in Long Beach, California. Over the past 42+ years, Sawdust Staircases prides itself on quality products, professionalism, and outstanding service.

Sawdust Staircases continued dedication to quality has not gone unnoticed. John has brought his extensive knowledge and skill set to job sites for prominent business owners and celebrities in the California region.

In 2011, John traded in palm trees and year-round 80 degree temps by moving to Pittston, Pennsylvania. Rest-assured, John didn’t get rusty during the move.

From inspiration to installation, John works closely with architects, designers, builders, and homeowners to bring a staircase vision to life. Whether a client is seeking inspiration for a new set of staircases or has a specific style in mind for handrails, John will make sure that it fits the aesthetic and functional needs of each project.
